Thomson and Heatly make winning start

Lucas Thomson and James Heatly won the men’s ten metre synchro event as the Scottish National and Open Diving Championsh­ips began at the Royal Commonweal­th Pool in Edinburgh last night.

The Edinburgh Diving Club duo’s partnershi­p has been growing throughout 2017 and they posted 168.84 points from the first three of their six dives from the platform board.

They then sat on 289.44 from five dives and finished with a good final dive of 71.04 to complete the event with 360.48 points.

Aidan Hislop and Alfie Brown from Plymouth Diving were second on 320.10 points, with Edinburgh Diving club pairing Angus Menmuir and Danny Mabbott third (251.79 points).

There was only one pairing in the women’s ten-metre synchro event with Caitlyn Lumsden and Mhari Goodwin posting a score of 192.75 points from their five dives.

Earlier, the three-metre synchro events for men and women took place with just one pairing in each.

In the men’s event Menmuir and Mabbott scored 249.51 points with Lumsden and Goodwin posting 192.87 points in their event.

Today, on day two of the meet, the highlights will be the men’s and women’s onemetre event. In the women’s event, Grace Reid and Gemma Mcarthur enter the action.
