Kempsell seals win for Scots

Doug Kempsell was the hero as Scotland’s men defeated Malaysia 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the World Team Championsh­ip in Marseille last night. They now face top seeds and title favourites Egypt.

Greg Lobban took the scalp of Malaysia’s 2016 world junior champion, Eain Yow Ng, beating the teenager 11-9, 5-11, 11-9, 11-7.

Alan Clyne had the chance to clinch Scotland’s last eight spot when he took on Malaysian No 1 Nafiizwan Adnan, but went down 7-11, 11-1, 11-8, 3-11, 8-11.

Kempsell was then preferred to Kevin Moran for the final rubber, and defeated Mohamed Syafiq Kamal 11-3, 3-11, 11-5, 10-12, 11-6.
