Kempsell seals win for Scots
Doug Kempsell was the hero as Scotland’s men defeated Malaysia 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the World Team Championship in Marseille last night. They now face top seeds and title favourites Egypt.
Greg Lobban took the scalp of Malaysia’s 2016 world junior champion, Eain Yow Ng, beating the teenager 11-9, 5-11, 11-9, 11-7.
Alan Clyne had the chance to clinch Scotland’s last eight spot when he took on Malaysian No 1 Nafiizwan Adnan, but went down 7-11, 11-1, 11-8, 3-11, 8-11.
Kempsell was then preferred to Kevin Moran for the final rubber, and defeated Mohamed Syafiq Kamal 11-3, 3-11, 11-5, 10-12, 11-6.
