Fir Park club to probe missile claims and acts of vandalism in clashes with champions

-

Motherwell have vowed to investigate missile-throwing by their own fans against Celtic – but also stated they would probe “numerous” acts of vandalism in the away stand.

The Lanarkshire side also revealed they had sought answers from the Scottish Football Association over the controversial penalties which went against them during their two meetings with Celtic in the past week.

Celtic captain Scott Brown warned that nothing was being done about a growing problem after coins and other objects were thrown towards him and his team-mates during a 1-1 draw at Fir Park on Wednesday.

A Motherwell statement read: “As we do at every match at Fir Park, if any incidents are reported to us, we will fully investigate them.

“Should any evidence exist, we will take appropriate action against any individuals who have acted unacceptably.

“In addition, we will work with Celtic Football Club to fully investigate, amongst other things, the numerous acts of vandalism, including 206 broken seats, damaged toilets and graffiti in the Mcewan Fraser Legal South Stand.”

The club are also understood to have received a number of complaints from supporters over coins and other missiles being thrown by Celtic fans in the top tier of Hampden during Sunday’s Betfred Cup final.

Motherwell promised fans they would address their frustrations over costly refereeing decisions in both matches. The club statement read: “Many supporters have contacted the club today seeking clarity on our position regarding incidents during Wednesday night’s fixture with Celtic.

“Firstly, it is unfortunate yet another Motherwell match has been dominated by a debatable decision from a match official. It is a call that hasleftthemajorityofoursupporters again feeling extremely frustrated. Whilst everyone in football accepts match officials have a challenging role, and getting everything correct is almost impossible, it is disappointing to see high-profile decisions affect both Wednesday night’s match and the Betfred Cup final. To that end, we have made contact with the Scottish FA’S head of refereeing (John Fleming) to express our views and seek feedback.”

Motherwell have a third meeting with Celtic in a week when they take on the Ladbrokes Premiership leaders on Saturday.
