Half of Capital residents want tram extension

Edinburgh citizens are divided on plans to extend the tram line to Leith, an new survey has revealed.

A total of 43.5 per cent were against the plan to take the current route between the airport and the centre of Edinburgh down Leith Walk to Newhaven, while 42.2 per cent backed the proposal.

Some 12.5 per cent said they neither agreed nor disagreed, according to the poll for the Edinburgh Evening News. The city council has backed the £165 million extension in principle but will not give the final go-ahead till next autumn.
