Boroughmuir win keeps the pressure on Stirling County

-

With one round of the shogun Conference remaining, Boroughmuir are putting pressure on the overall leaders, Stirling County, after the Meggetland club scored maximum points from their series of matches against Hamilton at the weekend, writes Alan Lorimer.

Pleasing for Boroughmuir was their 37-19 away win over Hamilton at under-18 level, with tries from Ethan Mcvicker, Gavin Inkster (2), Finlay Devine, Lennox Baselala (2) and Ben Mackintosh, Mcvicker kicking one conversion.

Boroughmuir top the under-16 table, having gone 13 rounds of the Conference unbeaten but, disappointingly, their match against Hamilton morphed into a development game because the Lanarkshire team was short of numbers.

As well as looking the odds-on overall winners of the Shogun Conference, Stirling County head the table at under-18 level. County’s strength in that age group was confirmed when the Bridgehaugh side beat Ayr 48-0.

Elsewhere in the Conference, Currie Chieftains’ problems with lack of numbers continued, with matches against Highland under-18 and under-16 being cancelled.

In the north-east region Lancer Conference, Ellon are in pole position while, in the central belt Galant Conference, Dunfermline have shown a resurgence by leading the table.

In schools rugby, Merchiston gained revenge for their Cup quarter-final defeat to George Watson’s College by achieving a 19-7 win in a friendly on Saturday.

Heriot’s were another side to post a satisfying win, defeating Stewart’s-melville College 26-20. Heriot’s end their fixture list this term against Fettes College tomorrow in what will be a battle of brothers, Ewan and Duncan Harrison, the respective coaches of the two schools.
