Man to return crown to Turkey

A cafe owner caught in a wrangle with Police Scotland and the Turkish government over an ancient golden crown has agreed to return it to Turkey.

Murat Aksakalli, from Edinburgh, claimed he inherited the item from his grandfather. The wreath was seized by Scots police in 2010 when Mr Aksakalli tried to sell it to undercover detectives. Officers believed the crown was stolen from a heritage site in Turkey. Parties yesterday settled the case before the start of proceedings at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.
