In your article “Drive to attract super yachts sets sail on Cool Route” (The Scotsman, 4 December) it is mentioned that a campaign has been launched to attract professionally crewed yachts measuring more than 24 feet to Scotland’s West Coast. 24 feet equals 7.3 metres and such small yachts are unlikely to have a professional crew. Perhaps thatwas meant to be “at least 24 metres long”. Compared with Roman Abramovich’s Eclipse shown in the photograph, at 162 metres, that is still quite small. It is also claimed that Eclipse cost “£1.5 billion”. This is a bit of an exaggeration. The price was never released, but estimates vary from e340 million to $500m. For £1.5bn you can build another Queensferry Crossing, including snagging costs, or the world’s second largest cruise ship, Oasis of the Seas, at 225,282 tons.
