India closing in on Test win

-

India are closing in on a 2-0 series victory after setting Sri Lanka a second-innings target of 410 before reducing them to 31 for three in the third and final Test in Delhi.

Resuming overnight on 356 for nine in their first innings, Sri Lanka were all out for 373 when captain Dinesh Chandimal was caught by Shikhar Dhawan off Ishant Sharma for 164.

Dhawan (67), Virat Kohli (50) and Rohit Sharma (50 not out) all made half-centuries as India declared their second innings on 264 for five in the 53rd over.

Indian bowlers Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja ripped through Sri Lanka’s top order and the tourists must now survive to save the series.

Shami took the wicket of Sadeera Samarawickrama for five and Jadeja removed fellow opener Dimuth Karunaratne (13) and nightwatchman Suranga Lakmal for a duck before bad light brought an early end to play.
