Man, 24, charged over alleged rape

A man has been charged after a woman was allegedly raped in Edinburgh’s Old Town.

The 44-year-old was allegedly subjected to an attack at about 3am on Wednesday in the High Street area.

Officers have now confirmed a 24-year-old man has been charged. He is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today. A spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh can confirm that a 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the serious sexual assault of a 44-year-old woman.”
