Torn asunder: Fragments of oldest surviving divorce papers go on show

Exhibitionsofficerkirstymacnab with 2,000-year-old Egyptian papyrus divorce papers which feature in the Shored Against Ruin: Fragments from the University of Edinburgh Collections display which opens in the Main Library today and runs until 24 February. The writ, unearthed a century ago, is believed to be one of the earliest divorce deeds in existence but was almost lost amongst a pile of rubbish.
