Miley and Wallace win
Hannah Miley and Dan Wallace will defend Commonwealth Games titles in Australia’s Gold Coast in April and both showed fine form on the first night of the Scottish National Short Course Championships in Edinburgh, writes
Miley, 28, had a terrific battle with England’s Aimee Wilmott to take the 200m individual medley in 2:08.16. Wallace won the 100m butterfly in 52.28secs and, in the same event, third placed Archie Goodburn (Warrender) claimed a Scottish Junior record in 54.48secs.
Wallace, 28, later added another gold, taking the rarely swum 100m individual medley in 54.17secs.
Heart of Midlothian’s Keanna Maciness, 16, who will make her Commonwealth Games debut in Australia, held off Miley and set a Scottish record in the 200m butterfly.
In a hotly contested 50m butterfly, two-time Olympian Craig Benson beat team-mate Ross Murdoch to snatch the gold medal in 26.98secs. Goodburn again made the final and set another Scottish Junior record in 28.05secs.
