Drone came within 15 metres of ‘colliding’ with a plane at Glasgow Airport

- Unfortunately I don’t think anything will be done until there’s loss of life. - Steve Lawrie

Is nothing going to be done until after a major air accident? A flying drone certainly has the capability to do serious damage, especially if ingested into an engine. I despair that anybody can fly a drone without a licence or strict regulations and yet a commercial pilot pays over £100,000 to obtain a licence to fly, is simulator checked every six months, undergoes strict medicals every year. Never-ending testing to ensure safety of passengers and then a flying drone could wipe you, your passengers and aircraft out in a blink of an eye. Madness! - Isabel West There are already strict regulations on drone flight in the UK. The problem is lack of enforcement. Mind you if a small plastic drone can take down a plane I’d be rather surprised. Bird strikes can be a problem but the only cases of a bird strike bringing down a plane have been when a flock of birds were involved disabling all the engines, not just one. That being said, anyone caught flying a drone at the airport should be severely punished. - Karsten Moerman
