Man found guilty of setting fire to mother

A man was yesterday convicted of murdering his 71-year-old mother by dousing her in petrol and setting her on fire.

William Kelly, 42, shouted “die, die” as his mother Cathy Kelly was engulfed in flames. He is now facing a life sentence following the incident at Kilmaurs Road, Kilmarnock, on 11 February. Glasgow High Court heard Kelly was angry because his mother had embarrassed him at a party by drinking too much.
