Dumbing down
Very shocked to read Sir Peter Scott has come up with the idea of dumbing down qualifications for university entrants from poorer backgrounds (‘Universities urged to relax entry grades for poorer students’, Scotsman 14 December) Howpatronising!
He has obviously never been to school or worked beside people from poorer backgrounds who are very bright but lack the financial resources to continue in further education; it certainly has nothing to do with intelli- gence. Is this just another ploy to put bums on seats in universities as well as to detract from the unemployment figures?
