#ROYALWEDDING

It was just a fortnight ago that Prince Harry announced that he and Meghan Markle were engaged to be married, and now a date has been announced. The fifth in line to the throne will wed the American actress on May 19, which is the same date as the FA Cup final.

@Socceram asked: “More importantly, if Aston Villa reach the final, which event will Villa fan Prince William choose?”

@Jack_royston cautioned “If you’re planning on coming to Britain anytime around May 19, 2018 you had better book your tickets/hotel/ taxis and anything else as soon as possible. And don’t think of going anywhere near Windsor Castle”.

@Lauren_pk wrote: “The wedding date is the anniversary of Anne Boleyn’s execution on orders of Henry Viii...lets hope this Henry has a happier marriage!”

@Marcjobin joked: “Saturday 19th May is all about who’ll pick up the old trophy by the ears. But enough about Prince Charles, it’s also FA Cup Final day.”

@Rossmccaff added: “Royal weddings always seem so close to the engagement until you remember they don’t have to save up for it because we’re paying.”

#INCOMETAX

Debate is still raging over taxation in Scotland after Derek Mackay revealed in Thursday’s Holyrood budget statement that hundreds of thousands of Scots would pay more in income tax. As the finer details of the budget are being pored over, some are concerned about the modest decrease in their take-home pay, others less so.

@Kennyfarq tweeted: “To my mind it doesn’t go far enough, but Scotgov’s new income tax regime is a welcome first step to a more progressive Scotland.”

@Talkstough added: “SNP estimates it will raise £164m from changes to income tax. Meanwhile they want to cut Air Passenger Duty...at a cost estimated at £189m. I find those choices bizarre.”

@Lastmanleaving wrote: “Tax is just me investing in my community. Y’know the one I live in and am a lucky member of. I’ve no objection to paying more income tax..”

@Mrjamesmack

summarised: “Good: the Budget will raise a little more money, the seal has been broken on income tax & new bands. Bad: extra amount raised is buttons.”
