Scott, who won two relay silvers at the Rio Olympics last year, had already claimed a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle event earlier in the week.

Ross Murdoch claimed his own Scottish best of 57.51 secs in finishing eighth in the 100m breaststro­ke on Saturday as Olympic champion Adam Peaty bagged his first short course title. Grove Menzieshil­l put in a clinical performanc­e to see off the challenge of Edinburgh University and Dundee Wanderers to retain pole position in the indoor first division.

The contest against the Edinburgh students was effectivel­y over by the interval with strikes by Gavin Byers, Albert Rowling and veteran Ross Mcpherson, although Callum White did reply with a late penalty corner. The championsa­ddedafurth­er goal from Cameron Golden with three minutes left for a 4-1 victory.

In similar vein, Menzieshil­l were three goals to the good against city rivals Wanderers by the interval, Mcpherson, Ben Cromar and Byers on target. Fergus Sandison pulled one back for Wanderers but that only seemed to spur on Golden, whose brace gave the champions an unassailab­le 5-1 advantage before Sandison finished the scoring with a consolatio­n.

Captain Patrick Christie was the catalyst in the Inverleith revival, the youngster scoring a double hat-trick in a 10-3 thumping of Edinburgh University in their opening match of the day. The former champions moved up to third in the table after beating Wanderers 6-4 in a later game.

Bromackelb­urneheldon to second spot after backto-back wins over Grange (7-5) and Hillhead (8-3). It was also a good day for Clydesdale who moved into the top four with narrow wins over Grange (3-2) and Edinburgh University (6-5).

The University continue to shock the establishm­ent in the women’s first division. They started the day with a 3-2 win over second-placed Milne Craig Clydesdale Western. Sophie Maunder opened for the students only for Susie Gilman to level. The contest was decided by two goals inside a minute by Ella Watt. University followed up with a single goal win over city neighbours CALA, leaving them tucked in behind leaders Dundee Wanderers, who beat Wildcats 5-1, Hillhead 5-0 and CALA 6-2.
