Body confirmed as fisherman after discovery

A body washed ashore on the Isle of Skye has been confirmed as that of a missing fisherman.

Alasdair Macleod, 57, from the Applecross area was reported missing on 20 November.

His empty boat, Varuna, had been discovered with its engine running on rocks north of Applecross Bay in Wester Ross.

A body was recovered on 9 December.

Police said formal identification had now taken place.

There are no suspicious circumstances and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
