Woman loses house battle

- By SIAN HARRISON

A woman has lost a legal bid to have her late mother’s frail and elderly partner removed from the home they shared for almost two decades.

Lynn Lewis tried to stop the house in Twyning Green, near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, from being transferred to Thomas Warner, 91, who had lived there for 19 years with Audrey Blackwell before her death in 2014.

Mrs Lewis went to the Court of Appeal in London in the hope of reversing an earlier ruling which allowed Mr Warner, who has lived in the Gloucestershire village all his life, to stay in the house and buy it for £385,000.

But yesterday Sir Geoffrey Vos dismissed her case and said the decision to hand the property to Mr Warner, given his age and poor health, was a “sensible, pragmatic solution”.

The court heard Mr Warner started living with Mrs Blackwell in 1995 and they remained together until her death.
