Eco energy hub will turn old shipyard site green
A state-of-the-art green energy centre is to be built on the site of a former shipbuilding yard in Clydebank after the project got the green light from planners.
The carbon-free facility will generate power for a district heating network for Queens Quay, a £250 million regeneration project on the site of John Brown’s shipyard where the QE2 and Queen Mary were built.
The new scheme, which will include water source heat pumps that use water from the River Clyde and harness heat from industrial processes and power generation, will make Clydebank the most ecofriendly town in Scotland.
The system, which is set to begin generating heat by autumnnextyear, hasbeen designed with the potential for expansion to serve the Golden Jubilee Hospital and the wider area.
