Cruise ship passengers killed in bus crash
Eight Americans, two Swedes and one Canadian were among 12 people killed in a bus crash in eastern Mexico.
A Mexican tour guide also died after the accident involving a bus carrying tourists to Mayan ruins on a narrow road in Quintana Roo state.
The Quintana Roo state government said the injured also includes three Canadians, four Brazilians and four Americans. Two other Swedes were wounded and taken to the United States for treatment.
The bus driver, who was injured, has been taken into custody. Seven others who were slightly injured in the crash had returned to their cruise ship after the accident.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. A passenger on another bus which passed just minutes after the crash said he observed skid marks on the dry road.
US state department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said: “We express our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this tragedy.”
