Dundee United Pitch imperfect

-

Plastic Fantastic is a book by ES Reich on fraud. More specifically, it’s the true story of a physicist who faked the discovery of a new superconductor made from plastic. What has this got to do with football you may ask?

Well Saturday in Dumfries was about fakery. The question is whether the fakery is about the claims made for artificial “all weather” pitches or whether the reasons proffered for the postponement don’t ring true. Plastic pitches have no place in the professional game and their reason for being is further diminished by the frozen surface excuse used at half-time on Saturday. But we were also short changed (literally) by our so called “top” whistler’s reasoning and the clear lack of universal support for his decision.
