Cummins relieved to end Saints goal drought

- By WILL JACKSON

St Johnstone striker Graham Cummins admits it was a weight off his shoulders to finally score last weekend.

He netted his first goal of the season in a 3-1 win over Rangers last Saturday after failing to do so in his previous 16 games this term.

Cummins was coming under increasing pressure from the Saints support, and admitted it was a relief to score in such a high-profile fixture.

“It was a really good feeling to get a goal,” he said.

“Strikers like to get their first goal off their back, and it’s almost a relief. It was a great place to do it so hopefully it can continue.”

He added: “Every striker gets frustrated when they’re not scoring and that was the case; I was frustrated and wanted to get that monkey off my back.

“It took a while to come but it was a great place to score and it builds confidence back up.

“Goals breed confidence for strikers, and yeah I’ve had chances this year where I’ve probably panicked a bit and should have done better, I know that myself.”

Michael O’halloran is in line to return for the Perth outfit when they host an in-form Hearts side at Mcdiarmid Park today.

The winger was forced to sit out against his parent club Rangers last week but will be expected to reclaim his starting spot despite an impressive win over the Ibrox side.
