A terror attack near the Houses of Parliament kills five people and leaves 50 other injured. The perpetrato­r, Khalid Masood, used his car to strike pedestrian­s on Westminste­r Bridge before running towards parliament and stabbing a police officer to death. Masood was shot dead by armed officers. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon signs a letter to Prime Minister Theresa May formally asking for powers to hold a second Scottish independen­ce referendum. It comes after the Scottish Parliament voted by 69 to 59 in favour of seeking permission for another referendum.
