followed the throwing of fake eyeballs onto the pitch!

Later, there were the sort of racist chants I have not heard in 40 years ,aimed at Nat Wedderburn and Jean Yves Mvoto Owono.

The statement from the Board of Falkirk FC was welcome and genuine. They apologised for the offence caused by a minority of their fans and stated that their actions did not reflect the values of their club.

However, this comes against the backdrop of Scottish resistance to “Strict Liability”, which the rest of the UK and much of Europe accepts.this would lead to a club having points deducted, or a fine, or a stand shut or a match played behind closed doors.

It has also made opposition to the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act look downright naive. Manufacturing was largely moved from Western countries to the likes of China due to low wages but we are now entering an era of wide scale automation where low wage will be replaced by no wage manufacturing.

This opportunity to bring back manufacturing could be missed if the decisions to site factories are based on environmental arbitrage – whoever has the loosest regulations wins.

If we can develop this new type of manufacturing set-up in Scotland the gain will be large and environmental oversight can be just.

We have most of the resources needed to move forward with this fourth industrial revolution – an educated population, a stable legal system and digital infrastructure. Lowprice energy is the only missing link.
