Saracens sign Stirzaker on short-term deal to fill gap at scrum-half
Saracens have signed Australian scrum-half Nic Stirzaker on a three-month deal.
The Aviva Premiership club confirmed Stirzaker’s arrival at Allianz Park until March, giving them options following an injury to England international Richard Wigglesworth.
London-born Stirzaker, 26, has captained the Melbourne Rebels and made more than 50 appearances for them .“nick is an experienced player. he’ s got 60 Super Rugby caps, which is a lot for a young man,” Saracens rugby director Mark Mccall told the club’s website.
“He is a very exciting scrumhalf with great passing ability and great running ability, and with Henry Taylor out and with Richard Wigglesworth’s injury we felt a little bit vulnerable in that area. So it is great to be able to bring Nick’s quality across.”
Meanwhile, Worcester hooker Kurt Haupt has extended his contract with the Aviva Premiership club until the end of this season.
The 28-year-old South African arrived at Sixways in October on a short-term deal after featuring for the Southern Kings in last year’s Super Rugby competition.
Worcester have now confirmed a longer stay for him, while also announcing former Ireland scrum-half Peter Stringer’s departure after reaching the end of a shortterm arrangement.
“We would like to thank Strings for his efforts over the past few months,” Worcester rugby director Alan Solomons said.
“He has been great around the squad and has played a key role in helping develop some of our younger players during the past few months.
“We wish him all the best in the future.”
