Britain will continue mission to destroy IS

- By ANGUS HOWARTH

Britain will not stop in the mission to destroy the global network of the “evil and barbaric” Islamic State, the Defence Secretary has said.

Gavin Williamson said eliminating the threat from IS is “critical” to UK security.

Visiting Kuwait, Cyprus and Iraq this week, he praised British service personnel and their role in coalition campaign to eradicate the group.

The RAF has carried out more than 1,000 strikes against extremists in the region.

He said: “Eliminating the threat from terrorism is critical to our security at home and abroad.

“Only by defeating this evil and barbaric group for good will we reduce the deadly threat they pose, which is why we won’t stop until their global network is destroyed.”
