Following the Lucozade and Sprite examples , I understand that Barr’s are about to replace sugar with sweeteners in Irnbru, our “national drink”. Surely this is a golden opportunity for our venerable government to take the bold step of throwing political correct-

ness out of the window and forcing Barr’s into a rethink. It’s hard to imagine a more populist and surefire vote catcher than the protection of one of the nation’s remaining iconic treasures. DAVID EDGAR
