End arming up
Joyce Mcmillan is right to highlight the complicity of Western governments in the ongoing destruction of Yemen (Perspective, 5 January). The three-year bombardment has created one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. The war may be happening thousands of miles away, but many of the weapons being used are produced on our doorsteps, including the Typhoon jets that are being flown by Saudi forces, and the Paveway IV bombs being dropped from the sky. The latter are made in Glenrothes.
One thing everyone can do is write to their local MP and urge them to put pressure on Theresa May to stop the arms sales. The UK Government says that it stands for human rights and democracy. It’s time for it to stop arming and supporting brutal dictatorships around the world.
