Mccall warns high-flying Ayr players of the danger posed by Arbroath

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Ayr United manager Ian Mccallhasremindedhistabletopping players of Arbroath’s threat ahead of the meeting at Somerset Park.

Mccall, who signed Stranraer captain Stevie Bell yesterday, said: “We have lost four games this season, with Arbroath, Raith Rovers, Airdrie and Forfar getting the better of us. Only one of those teams deserved to beat us and that was Arbroath.

“They came to Somerset Park and handled going a goal down before running out very worthy winners at 2-1. At their place we were fortunate to get to half-time losing only 1-0 but were very strong in the second half and won 4-1. Just in case any of my players have forgotten about how difficult those two games were it has been pointed out to them this week.”

Arbroath boss Dick Campbell, pictured, said: “We are back in the top four and I am pleased about that. We are playing well and the fact that Ryan Mccord, who has scored nine times this season, cannot get a starting jersey confirms that we are in a good place. We will go to Ayr and look to win again.”

Second-placed Raith Rovers welcome Forfar to Stark’s Park, with manager Barry Smith saying: “It will not be easy as Forfar are a dangerous side who came back from two goals down to win at Ayr last weekend. Jim Weir is making his presence felt there and the recruitment of Dale Hilson has made a lot of people sit up and take notice. However, we have plenty of players that Forfar will need to watch. We have been strong at home all season and we want that to continue.”

Alloa welcome Albion Rovers to the Indodrill Stadium while Airdrie host East Fife and cash-strapped Stranraer, who have now lost five players since the transfer window opened, head to Hampden to face Queen’s Park.
