58-year-old assaulted during break-in

A man was assaulted by thieves as they ransacked his property.

The incident happened in a house on Newlandscr­aigs Drive, Johnstone, at around 2pm on Saturday.

Police officers said that five men broke into the property and were confronted by the householde­r. The householde­r, 58, was pushed over and assaulted. The suspects stole money and jewellery before leaving.

Officers said that the men were wearing balaclavas. One of them was around 5ft 7ins in height, wearing a black bomber jacket, balaclava and black gloves.
