Party HQ in job blunder
The Cabinet reshuffle began with confusion after Conservative Party HQ had to hastily delete a Twitter post naming the wrong person to a job.
In what appeared to be the first change to be announced, a tweet revealed that Transport Secretary Chris Grayling had been made chairman of the Conservative Party.
However, it was deleted within seconds, with immigration minister Brandon Lewis later confirmed as taking the role.
Conservative Campaign Headquarters political director Iain Carter sent the image appearing to confirm Mr Grayling’s appointment to a majority of the party’s MPS in a Whatsapp message, before deleting it and saying it was sent in error, a Tory source said.
Criticising the Prime Minister for making limited changes to her administration, SNP MP Stephen Gethins said: “Today’s shambolic ongoing Cabinet reshuffle has confirmed that Theresa May is a prisoner to the Brexit hard liners who now hold the power in the government, and cannot be moved. They are calling the tune.”
Labour’s Jon Trickett said: “By simply rearranging the deckchairs in her reshuffle, Theresa May has shown that her floundering government is out of fresh ideas.”
