Sport: SFA poised to make offer to O’neill

- By CRAIG P STEWART

The Scottish FA has issued Clyde midfielder Ally Love with a notice of complaint after looking into reports that the 26-year-old used a racist term in a League 2 game against Annan at Broadwood on 2 January.

Love was alleged to have racially abused the Galabank side’s Rabin Omar as they left the pitch following a goalless draw between the sides.

The remark supposedly made to Omar, born in Holland to a family originally from Iraqi Kurdistan, was included in match official Scott Millar’s report after at least two Annan players and one of Millar’s assistants provided evidence on the day.

SFA head of compliance Tony Mcglennan wrote to both clubs last week asking for their version of events, and, after reports were provided, the decision was taken to issue Love, who was making his debut for the Bully Wee after joining from Brechin City, with a notice of complaint.

Love will attend a meeting at Hampden to discuss the case before the end of January, with a Clyde spokesperson saying: “We are aware of the notice of complaint, however we will not be commenting.”

If found guilty, Love could be facing a lengthy ban – Falkirk lost Kevin O’hara for eight games and Joe Mckee for four over comments made to Dunfermline’s Dean Shiels – some over his loss of an eye as a child.

Celtic winger Aleksandar Tonev had a seven-game ban imposed after being found guilty of racially abusing Aberdeen’s Shay Logan in 2014, with East Fife’s Kevin Fotheringham suspended for eight games in 2008 after racially abusing Stranraer’s Gregory Tade.
