CLARIFICATIONS & CORRECTIONS

l In yesterday’s story headlined “Gormley concerned over ‘delayed’ probe”, it was claimed by Mr Phil Gormley’s lawyer that the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (Pirc) had still to take a statement from a senior police officer who was a “key witness” in a complaint five months after the matter had been referred to them. The Pirc rebuts this claim, and said in a statement: “There was a clear need to interview this witness at the most appropriate time in line with the investigative strategy. Due to additional allegations being received which required investigation and also the fact that the witness was unable to make himself available because of other commitments he was not free for interview until 29 November and 11 December.”
