Saxophonist wins prestigious jazz award

A Scots saxophonist has been announced as the winner of a prestigious jazz award.

Helena Kay, originally from Perth, scooped the £5,000 Peter Whittingham Jazz Award 2017, the charity Help Musicians UK said.

Described as a gifted alto saxophonist, Ms Kay also won the 2015 Young Scottish Jazz Musician Of The Year. Claire Gevaux, creative director at HMUK, said: “Helena has an exciting future ahead of her.
