Sixth arrest made over gangland murder attempt

- By ANGUS HOWARTH

A man has been arrested in connection with a knife attack on Steven “Bonzo” Daniel in Glasgow last year.

A 44-year-old was detained after a police intelligence-led operation in Kent resulted in the arrest.

Mr Daniel, 37, was attacked on Craighall Road in the Port Dundas area on 18 May.

His injuries were so substantial that he had to be placed in a medically induced coma.

Five men have already appeared in court in connection with the attack.

The 44-year-old man is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.

Mr Daniel had been attacked in a late night stabbing close to the M8 motorway.

His injuries were so severe to his nose, mouth and eye that police officers are believed to have at first thought he had been shot.

Mr Daniel is understood to have required surgery to rebuild his face.

Police had warned him in the weeks leading up to the attempted murder that his life was in danger because of a long-running feud between Glasgow’s Daniel and Lyons crime clans.

The cars reportedly used in the attack – a VW and an Audi – had reportedly been stolen from the Edinburgh area and fitted with false plates.

The vehicles were found burned out.
