Earthquake kills two in south Peru
A powerful earthquake struck off Peru’s coast yesterday, killing at least two people and leaving more than 60 injured.
The early morning 7.1 magnitude quake happened about 9:20am GMT and was centred 25 miles from Acari in south-west Peru.
The quake jolted people awake as far away as the capital city of Lima, some 350 miles from Acari. Roads were blocked and homes collapsed in several towns.
A 55-year-old man was crushed by a fallen rock. A second person died after a building collapsed, while at least 65 people were injured.
