On high alert: Mount Sinabung volcano erupts into life spewing ash clouds and lava

Mount Sinabung volcano spews thick smoke in Karo, North Sumatra in Indonesia yesterday.it blasted ash thousands of metres from the volcano, after erupting on Saturday when the volcano started oozing red lava which rolled down the hillside.

Residents near Sinabung have been warned to beware of flowing lava.

Mount Sinabung roared back to life in 2010 for the first time in 400 years. After another spell of inactivity it erupted once more in 2013, and has remained highly active since.

Around 1,400 miles away, Mount Agung, in Bali has also erupted.
