#ICELAND

Frozen food retailer Iceland has pledged to stop using plastic in the production of its own-brand packaging. The move to sustainable packaging will be fully in place by 2023. @Lewispugh said: “Over 80 per cent of customers polled called for less plastic. Retailers who embrace this will win a lot of business.” @Geraintdaviesmp tweeted: “Supermarket Iceland to ditch plastic from stores in five years. Congratulations @ Icelandfoods. Others must follow. Beware snakes of plastic industry.” @dresserman added: “I think the Plastic reduction is a good thing and applaud Iceland for their efforts in this regard. However consumer viewpoint what about products that customers like to see first? Mince? Steak? Ham etc?” @Operacreep said: “It would make more sense for councils across the country to create facilities to recycle all plastic...but in this age of austerity and outsourcing, it just won’t happen. Just hope the dubious biodegradable plastic doesn’t make a come back amidst the PR storm.”

#KOREACRISIS

North Korea’s state newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, has commented on Donald Trump’s war of words with Kim Jong Un over the size of their nuclear buttons, branding the US president’s claim “the spasm of a lunatic”. @munkimatt said: “Give Kim some credit here, ‘spasm of a lunatic’ is a great line.” @Chrishewitt posted: “Sorry, ‘I cannot sanction your buffoonery’, you had a good run, but it’s time to step aside. ‘Spasm of a lunatic’ will be taking over now.” @simon_lindsell added: “Wasn’t ‘Spasm of a Lunatic’ an early, obscure film by Dario Argento?”

#SNEEZE

A BMJ Case Report has warned people about the dangers of stifling a sneeze, after a British man ruptured his throat and ended up on a feeding tube. @aparanjape said: “Hmm... scary!” @danidmedia added: “Ah, I’m guilty of doing this...it’s a bad habit that’s hard to break.” @paigelav posted: “Why would anyone want to stifle a sneeze? That might be the worst feeling.” @Kirkyuhnke said: “I have literally never held a sneeze in. I’m worried my eyes will pop out. I’m not taking the risk.”
