Doctor on call

-

Medical negligence payments paid out annually by NHS Scotland have risen four-fold in the past decade, new figures have revealed. Medical staff make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. I think we have to accept that as a risk in getting treatment. Spending the money to try and eliminate as many mistakes as possible and improving treatment is better than spending it on lawyers, bureaucracy and compensation.

Cagey I agree that some people are compensation happy and these are truly selfish. However, if you have a genuine grievance and maybe your life is ruined etc, why not go after money? After all you may well need it as you probably can never work again and maybe need the house changing round to accommodate you.

Veronica Why would people go after the NHS for money? They know it’s cash-strapped. They know it’s funded by their next-door neighbour getting out of bed every day to get to work, maybe working over Christmas. Who are these people who take the free healthcare, then go begging for a compensation handout?

honesyuckle God forbid you ever find yourself in a negligence situation.

Pete’s Dragon It would be better if these payments were broken down to a lower level to identify the chancers vs the genuine clinical incidents as there is a vast difference between a person falling over for comp vs medical equipment left inside a patient.
