Leicester goal is VAR history

-

Leicester City became the first team in English football to score a goal via a VAR decision as they overcame Fleetwood 2-0 in their FA Cup third round replay.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored in each half but it was his strike 13 minutes from time that required the intervention of the video assistant referee.

Referee Jonathan Moss asked to check if the striker was offside before finishing off Riyah Mehrez’s lovely reverse pass.

Replays showed Iheanacho was onside when the ball was played and the goal stood to see Leicester progress to a fourth-round tie away at Peterborough.

Cardiff City avoided an FA Cup banana skin as Junior Hoilett’s brace helped them win 4-1 at Mansfield to set up a fourth-round clash with Manchester City

In front of the watching City boss Pep Guardiola, Bruno Ecuele Manga’s 34th-minute opener put Cardiff in front, only for Danny Rose to level a minute for their League Two opponents later.

But the Bluebirds’ class showed after the break, with Hoilett, twice, and Anthony Pilkington scoring.

West Ham United needed a goal in extra time from Reeceburketobeatleague One Shrewsbury 1-0.
