#SNOW

Transport Minister Humza Yousaf apologised to hundreds of drivers who were forced to spend the night in their cars after heavy snow left them stranded on the M74 in Dumfries and Galloway overnight. @Grahamrmann said: “Thinking about all the poor folks stuck on the #m74 this morning. They’ll be having to battle tiredness, hunger, the need for a whizz as well as the blizzard conditions. No doubt ‘lessons will be learned’ ... again.” @jordanngraham vented: “Don’t even attempt to try and come on the #m74 southbound. Been stuck on it all night and haven’t even moved an inch.” @Sheilakupsch mused: “Stuck on #m74 and can’t sleep – my attention has turned to food. I could right go some fajitas right now: with guacamole; sour cream, cheese, the works. Any other food cravings out there? #alwaysonmymind.”

#BITCOIN

With investors spooked by regulatory fears, more than $200 billion (£145bn) has been wiped off the value of global cryptocurrencies. The price of Bitcoin, the world’s best known cryptocurrency, fell to below $10,000 (£7,240). @jkaraian posted: “If you got bitcoin for Christmas, it’s now worth a quarter less than when Santa delivered it.” @pinkbracesnyc added: “Cryptocurrency bloodbath will continue. While it is too tempting to buy more, it is likely we will have an 80% sell-off this year. I won’t be surprised if bitcoin settles below 5K in a couple of months. And there is a high chance of that to occur.”

#PMQS

The fate of troubled construction firm Carillion was at the centre of heated debate yesterday in the House of Commons at Prime Minister’s Questions. Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said private firms running public services must be “shown the door” to prevent a repeat of the Carillion debacle. @tunnelrat76 said: “I thought Corbyn was going to burst a blood vessel in #pmqs he didn’t look well when he got angry and all Momentumised, didn’t get him anywhere as usual.” @Davidwestcross countered: “For a government keen on austerity they were somewhat cavalier-like with taxpayers’ money when throwing it at Carillion.”
