Dunfermline In the limelight

With the “big” clubs sunning themselves in foreign climes, one of the joys of January is the publicity given to the Championship.

Football writers from west of Scotland tabloids, with little knowledge outwith Scotland’s cities or, indeed, any real interest beyond Glasgow’ s city limits, are despatched to the Championship. and so to east end, where they witnessed a crowd and atmosphere half the top tier cannot match. In our little country it is utterly indefensible that the biggest Championship clubs like St Mirren, Dundee United and Dunfermline are not enhancing the top tier. The usual defence, that quality would be diluted, is refuted by the annual cull of Premiership clubs in the Scottish Cup. There will be a few scalps this weekend.
