Scots call centre group grows in Romania

- By SCOTT REID

Ascensos, the Scottish contact centre business, has continued to expand beyond these shores, opening a new facility in Bucharest, Romania.

The firm initially established operations in Bucharest in 2016 following the acquisition of the Dutch business HECC, which had 70 staff across its sites in Boxtel in the Netherlands and Bucharest.

The new Romanian facility already has a workforce of 100 and the company plans to create a total of 200 jobs as it continues to grow. Retail industry clients with a European footprint are said to have been attracted to the Bucharest operation due to the team’s multilingual skills.

Ascensos runs three contact centres in Scotland, one on the Isle of Wight, its operations in Boxtel and now the new location in Bucharest. The company employs up to 1,600 customer service representatives internationally.

The new facility is located within a “state-of-the-art” building in central Bucharest and represents an initial investment of more than £500,000. Its opening was carried out by Ascensos’ executive chairman, Dermot Jenkinson.

He said: “As an international business we have invested further in Bucharest as it provides a high calibre workforce, strengthens our multi-lingual capabilities and continues to expand our operations beyond the UK as we grow and scale.”

Hans Jansen, head of the firm’s continental European operations, added: “It is fantastic to be able to show this commitment to Bucharest and to our team in the city.”
