Carillion deal struck to pay staff on rail jobs

Employees of Carillion working on Network Rail projects will have their wages guaranteed to at least mid-april.

PWC and Network Rail have come to an agreement ensuring the auditor can pay wages for work on Network Rail’s projects until after Easter. They have also made arrangemen­ts to ensure rail employees are paid as normal in January.

NR said in a statement: “In addition, funding has been secured to ensure that any suppliers to Carillion will be paid by PWC in respect of work relating to Network Rail projects.”

Theagreeme­ntwasmade as it was revealed Carillion was allegedly owed £40 million by the government when it went into liquidatio­n. A number of small firms said they were owed money by the company, but sources said the constructi­on giant was owed as much as £40m on government contracts.
