Heavy rain, winds to batter Scotland

Fresh weather warnings have been issued with heavy rain and high winds expected across Scotland.

Met Office yellow “be aware” warnings have been issued for high winds in the Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, Strathclyde, Tayside and the Highlands between 1am and 2pm today. Gusts are expected to reach 70mph in places.

Heavy rain is also expected from the early hours of today. Flood alerts have been issued in areas where thawing snow has already led to problems with lying water.
