‘Everything else suffers as Nationalists can’t move on from flags and banners’

The row on the SNP’S bid to remove the Union Flag from Scottish Government buildings across the country tells you everything you need to know about the nationalists’ approach to being in charge.

It’s perhaps telling that the SNP issued these flag-waving guidelines on January 10, the day after the Scottish Conservatives released serious proposals on the Curriculum for Excellence to ensure education north of the border could return to being the best.

When the SNP was rumbled on this, Nicola Sturgeon went into full Donald Trump mode. She tweeted a full 17 times on the issue in a desperate bid to put out the flames. But she can’t change what has appeared from her own government in black and white.

And while she was attempting to spin her way out of this on Twitter yesterday, the Scottish Conservatives were preparing for an important debate in the Scottish Parliament on the accountability of Scotland’s police force.

The problem with a government whose number one priority always has and always will be the constitution, is that it can’t give its full focus to anything else. That’s why health, education and the economy suffered while the SNP obsessed with independence.

And that’s why, even with all the challenges Scotland faces today, the nationalists’ primary focus will always be on flags and banners.” Murdo Fraser is a Tory MSP
