Shine a light: Candles commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day

A church minister lights one candle among 600 depicting the Star of David at an event to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day yesterday at the Chapter House of York Minster in York. The commemoration, attended by representatives of York’s Jew ish community, other faith communities and refugee support groups, included York Minster’s Evensong and The Kaddish, the Jewish Mourners Prayer. Holocaust Memorial Day honours those who suffered under Nazi persecution during the Second World War, and also in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
