Foster and Doig suffer in singles

- By ANNE DUNWOODIE

Lesley Doig went from the high of a mixed doubles world title on Tuesday to the low of defeat in the singles semi-finals yesterday.

Doig, 26, from Newburgh was well below par as she went out 10-4, 13-2 to holder Katherine Rednall from Ispwich in the World Matchplay event at Potter’s resort in Great Yarmouth.

Doig said: “I just never turned up did I? I can’t believe how badly I played. I just couldn’t feel it at all.”

In the men’s second round, Troon’s defending champion Paul Foster, who had his sights set on a record equalling sixth title, lost 8-7, 8-4 to Welsh No 16 seed Jason Greenslade.

Foster said: “I feel I played well over the match and only had a few loose bowls. But Jason played the big bowls at crucial times and that was the difference.”

Scottish interest continues tonight with Auchinleck’s No 8 seed and 2013 winner Stewart Anderson bidding for a quarter-final berth when he takes on Norfolk wild card Wayne Wilgress.
