GB sends its biggest team to Korea

- By GARETH BLACK

Scotland and Lions legend Doddie Weir has teamed up with Tennent’s Lager to help launch a charity raffle to give away the “Best Seat in the House” for Scotland’s home Six Nations games against France and England.

The winners will get to watch the game from a six-person dugout just yards away from the BT Murrayfield pitch.

Proceeds from the raffle will be split between the Scottish drinks industry charity, The BEN and the Myname5 Doddie Foundation, one of several charities supported by Scottish Rugby. Sat metres away from the Scotland bench, and joined by a Scottish rugby legend, the winners will walk through the Murrayfield tunnel before taking their seats and enjoying cold beer and snacks throughout the game. The My Name5 Doddie Foundation was established to support research and awareness of Motor Neurone Disease, a condition which last year Weir, pictured, sadly announced he was battling. Raffle tickets can be purchased now for £5 via www. thebestseat.co.uk, with the option to buy a specific number of tickets or a bundle of 5, 10 or 15. Additional prizes available also includes Scotland shirts and signed balls. Great Britain will send its biggest Winter Olympics team to Pyeongchang with 59 athletes selected to compete in South Korea.

Team GB will be hoping to surpass the best-ever return of four medals – achieved in Chamonix in 1924 and four years ago in Sochi – for the Games which run from 9-25 February.

Scottish short track speedskating world champion Elise Christie heads a number of strong British medal contenders in Pyeongchang and UK Sport has set a target of at least five medals. Eve Muirhead, in her third Games, leads a women’s curling team that won last year’s European Championships, while fellow Scot Andrew Musgrave, buoyed by a first World Cup top-three finish last year, will also hope to make the podium.
