The eyes of the world were on Scotland as Burns Day was celebrated, with traditional meals and speeches being served. Scotland’s most famous poet was honoured. @Ianmearnsmp tweeted: “Happy Burns Day, enjoy your Haggis. ‘O wad some Pow’r the giftie gie us To see oursels as ithers see us!’” @Beinscots added: “On this day in 1759: Robert Burns, legendary national poet of Scotland, was born in Alloway, Ayrshire. After Queen Victoria and Columbus, Burns has more statues of him around the world than any other nonreligious figure.” @Cameronmcneish posted: “Happy Burns Day to all my friends and followers. I’ve just listened to Sheena Wellington singing A Man’s a Man and it’s set me up proudly for the day ahead.”

Charity organisation the Presidents Club has closed down after journalists exposed the treatment of hostesses. Several attendees, including government minister Nadhim Zawahi, distanced themselves from the event. @Tompeck tweeted: “The Presidents Club has shut down? Huge gap in the market there for anyone who wants to set up a £1,660 a ticket dinner at which all the guests leave the second they arrive because they honestly had no idea what it was about.” @HELENTBBC surmised: “Worth noting that as recently as 2014 Presidents Club annual dinner had income of £694,000 but cost £673,000. Starts to look a little like a massive party with a smaller charity attached.” @Yvettecoopermp added: “The Presidents Club Charity Dinner – a front for groping, harassment & appalling sexism by rich men. Is this what these men demand in order to donate to charitable causes? Utterly appalling & shameful.”

Nicola Sturgeon was in place for her weekly grilling by MSPS, where in a badtempered exchange she was accused of lying by Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie. @Kirstystricklan said: “Willie Rennie accuses Nicola Sturgeon of lying, she calls him a pathetic attention seeker in response.” @Politicsscot posted: “Not surprised that @ Nicolasturgeon finally snaps and calls @willie_rennie an attention seeker. It’s not the first time his aggression has got the better of him.”
